Lovewhip
Whip It Baby
Squirrelygirl
It’s been a while since I heard a ska album that really got me going. It seems of late, most so-called ska records are just punk with an occasional riff stolen from Madness or the English Beat thrown in. Lovewhip is a band to restore your faith in ska. Mixing Calypso in with the standard reggae beats gives Lovewhip a smooth, unique sound. Lead vocalist and guitar player Erin Harpe guides the listener through eight instantly likeable songs including “No More You,” “Rudies In Stereo,” and “Nairobi.” In the small world of female fronted ska, Lovewhip lands somewhere behind Metro Stylee and ahead of Dance Hall Crashers and No Doubt (way back when they were ska).
