Sound Track

The Cooler

Caipirinha

Sound Track’s songs never really begin or end. Switching tracks is like changing the dials on a radio station: You come across a work already in progress. Savvas Ysatis crafts a deeply minimalist version of house. It’s full of detail on the fringes, but at the heart of each track resides a metronomic beat, carefully weighed against the equally reductive bassline. Tracks like the closer “Bel Air” fall closer to Chain Reaction-esque reverb house than the Cologne minimalism of Thomas Brinkmann and the Voigts. “Mule” is slightly glitchier than the median of the tracks with its fat bassline, microscopic kick drum, and modulating effects. This isn’t difficult music, by any means, but its austerity is somewhat off-putting. The Cooler, despite its name, is a measure warmer and more organic than its Mego and Raster cousins in this style.
