Duran Duran
Pop Trash
Hollywood
In usual Duran Duran style, nothing is as it seems. This album is practically dripping with rhinestones and little pink telephones, but in between the rockabilly artwork, some really great lines remain hidden. The only problem with that is that the lines – or at least, the basic idea of them – are repeated over and over. From the so-real song about dating, “Mars Meets Venus,” to a very trippy, very electric “Hallucinating Elvis,” their unique style is ever present, but it seems a little more subdued on this album.
Final verdict? A die-hard Duran Duran fan would appreciate it with a whole heart, but with the exception of a few tracks, it was too much written predictability for me. I found myself singing along because I knew what would come next, not because I know the album. Great cover art, mediocre music.
