I’m not really certain that motherhood has been particularly good for Madonna. It may have helped her find inner peace, but it seems that her music has suffered. Following up her wildly overrated Ray Of Light, Madonna releases Music that is easily Ms. Ciccone’s weakest effort – yes, even worse than True Blue. Madonna has abandoned the lush, sophisticated sound she had so carefully crafted on Erotica and Bedtime Stories, and is attempting to chink into the Jennifer Lopez/Brittney Spears/Christina Aguillera stranglehold on pop music. But this sort of bubblegum dance-pop really isn’t her forte. Even in her early days, Madonna’s dance stuff had far more edge than, say, Fun Boy Three. Mama Madonna needs to act her age and put out a good record.
