Wheatus

Wheatus

Columbia

When I first heard their first single, “Teenage Dirtbag,” I swore up and down that Wheatus was an all grrrl band. Imagine my surprise in finding that they are actually four guys from New York who thought up and made this record in the lead singer’s kitchen. They’ve hit the airwaves with an arsenal of oddly catchy tunes like the angst ridden “Teenage Dirtbag,” the Presidential scandal song “Hump’em N’ Dump’em,” a cover of 1988’s “A Little Respect,” and high schoolish “Leroy.” Wheatus may not be the most respected of bands for reasons beyond their control, but I still think that Wheatus isn’t a bad listen. It’ll be great on soundtracks, and I think I’ll save it for when I need to hype up a crowd.
