Iceberg Defect In Da House

Pretentious ‘Bout Pretentiousness

An iceberg only displays 1/10 to 1/7 of its entire mass above the water, leaving the majority of it hidden beneath the surface?

The majority of the “art world” today fails to serve its purpose. Artists spend more time justifying, sanctifying, and explaining their art than they do manufacturing it. The entire idea that “a picture paints a thousand words” is lost amongst the dissertations forming the foundation in which the modern art world/market is placed.

The “thousand word” approach is the reason many artists get into the business of art-making to begin with: So much of what they feel can’t be restricted to the mathematics of linguistics.

Often artists make art simply as a means of not having to explain them selves. People are taken back, even offended, when an artist finds their own artwork inexplicable, casual, or even blasé.

Besides art is meant to speak to everyone, not an educated elite who lay claim to it now.

It?s often frustrating that people are expected to question, “What does this mean,” when looking at a work of art. It?s even more frustrating when people are so easily tripped up and befuddled by simple juxtapositions and ambiguities.

Why do things have to make sense? It exists extremely rarely in nature. Once you apply commonplace moralities, you undermine, pervert, and even negate the power of symbols and imagery. Besides, it?s the simplistic and improper placings of moralities that promote so much of our “modern turmoil”: Good vs. Evil, etc.

An iceberg only displays 1/10 to 1/7 of its entire mass above the water, leaving the majority of it hidden beneath the surface.

The “defect” here is that the majority of this “iceberg” lies above the surface. Consider this a case AGAINST “elusive” depth and meaning.

Iceberg Out.
