Harvette

Harvette

Stone Garden

Mostly an album of unassuming blue-collar quirky rock, impeccably written and performed by this trio of experienced, hardworking musicians. Some of the tracks do stand out, such as the gentle “Still Crossing” and the feel-good rock of “No Big Surprise,” but too many of the songs rest far too heavily on overtly banal choruses to be able to keep up interest over the course of an entire album. “It’s a long way to the top of the middle of the road,” goes a line in one of their songs, and judging by this effort, they’ve got a bit of work ahead of them before ruling the radio airwaves. However, seeing that they’re frankly quite good-looking guys, you know they’re going to make it eventually. What a great comfort that must be.
