World According To Repo Man

World According To Repo Man

“The more you drive, the less intelligent you are.”

Whatever happened to the future promised us? The robot cars? The moving sidewalks? Meals in pill form? We’ve become slaves to the mundane. Slaves to fashion. Our own chauffeurs.

The automobile, the multi-ton rolling deathtrap, is the living room of today. People busy themselves loading it with stereos, dvd players, computers, refrigerators, and telephones. Things reserved, and in many cases, not yet acquired for living rooms, family rooms, and small apartments.

The fact that people spend so much time looking for parking, driving through fast food, weaving in and out of traffic, and it necessitates that their cars are not only a status symbol, but their concentrated primary hive of communication, information, consumption, and entertainment brings about such an onslaught of irony that one can only stare at and shuffle their feet, letting out but a nervous laugh.

Cars are our guiltiest of guilty pleasures. The worst thing for us- but the best thing around. Our rolling mecha-hogs eating the road before us.

Stupifying maintenance. Multi-car pile-ups. Tolls. Congestion. Construction. Moving violations. Road Rage. Car payments. Rising insurance rates. Rising gas prices. Middle East Strife. Who could ask for anything more?

Iceberg Out.
