Trumethod Collectiv
Collection A
:Run Recordings
In a very short time the continuous mix CD has gone from being a novelty to being utterly ubiquitous (and sometimes a bit tedious – and I don’t even want to talk about the double mix CD). However, from the very first note of the very first song, Mr. Gone’s “Fusao,” I knew I was in for a good time.
The Tru Method Collectiv is a talented group of nu-jazz heads out of Britain, who lay their grooves down silky, smooth, and more infectious than syphilis in 1917. This mix is chock full of their work, which is exemplary. Immediate comparisons can and will be drawn to Jazzanova and the Sonar Kollektiv (with Koop, Minus 8, Les Gammas, etc.), but this stable of Mr. Gone (who mixed the disc with BlackGold), BMF, Stratospheric, Stone Groove, and Afro Elements can not be ignored. They add a sophisticated air to the sweat their music generates. It’s that nu jazz flavor that seems to fit any hip occasion, and any fan of the music will really get into this stuff (check out Mr. Gone’s “Just Listen to the Record,” New Jazz Hustlers’ “Wanna Take You For a Ride,” and BMF’s “Deepest Soul” for some sheer dance brilliance).
This is one mix disc you really should not miss.
