Los Halos

For Ramona…

Loveless

From what I can gather from their label’s website, Los Halos have pulled an about face on par with The Jesus and Mary Chain’s Darklands after their sonic assault of Psychocandy. There is no trace of the full-fledged sonic assault found on their debut release. This second release is very much a muted affair that, at times, resembles Neutral Milk Hotel more than it does My Bloody Valentine. Pleasantly strummed guitars and a gentle accompaniment frame the songs and provide a loose sense of balance. The first few tracks never quite took hold but on the fourth, the band begins to sink into your conscience. The fourth track, “Losst Halo” [sic], is a kiss off to a lover sung at a glacial pace. After this track, things pick up considerably with “My Heart is an Arrow” before settling back down with “Will You Go to Heaven?” Although not groundbreaking, For Ramona… would certainly appeal to fans of indie-pop music.
