Happy Campers

Monkeyass

Miserable album “art” aside, this third full-length from upbeat emo rockers Happy Campers is a surprisingly decent, if unchallenging, affair. The Las Vegas threesome excels in pseudo-introspective punk-pop and jangly sing-along choruses, while both the devastatingly crass “Fair Weather Father” and the politically charged “Wave the Flag” are intriguing enough to raise at least one of your jaded eyebrows. The best of the lot, though, is “Once Bitten,” a fine tale about confronting one’s own shortcomings in life. Not exactly gut-wrenching stuff, but it’s a fine third album from this lot, and it should at least earn them a decent distribution deal.
