Paradise Boys

Your Love 12”

PrinceHouse

Two songs into their career, and Paradise Boys already have appeared to be one of the more exciting acts to emerge from San Francisco’s thriving electro scene. This is their second 12” release, following the pumping Gonna Make You Mine EP, which featured the band’s first songwriting attempt in its original version, alongside remixes from Broker/Dealer and Nikki Anderson. But while that first release was a standout slab of house-infused electro-dub, this one ups the ante even more, featuring two distinctly different, both equally rewarding, versions of Jamie Principal and Frankie Knuckles’ classic house track “Your Love.”

The A-side is a fascinatingly distant take on the song, approaching Soft Cell’s chilled hedonism while respecting the song’s house origins. Guest vocalist Aurora Rising perfectly encapsulates both the elegance and the bewilderedness of the track, complementing the band’s industrialist grace. The Blaktroniks are an unfamiliar name to me, but their B-side house remix definitely makes me want to hear more. Injecting the dead house genre with some much needed new life, Blaktroniks could get by on energy and power alone, but add those endearingly fragile rhythms to the bottom, bringing depth and beauty to this truly stellar 12”.
