The Sound of the Crowd

They Just Reflexively Cover Things Up

CBS News has a story about a dispute that has arisen about papers the 9/11 commission wants to see that the Bush administration is withholding.

This in and of itself may not sound like news. If you’re following the story with even one eye open you should know that Bush has tried everything he could to stonewall the commission. Only public opinion and political realities have forced his hand.

But what’s interesting about this instance is that what Bush is trying to protect is not records of what his administration was doing about terrorisim pre 9/11…but what the Clinton administration did.

So you gotta wonder why Bush wouldn’t want them to see them, don’t you? Clinton, BTW, has given his permisiion for the papers to be shown to the commission. Maybe, just maybe, they say what’s already been said: That the Clinton administration at least tried but obviously didn’t do enough, but the Bush administration didn’‘t even try.

And as Bush’s credibility on what was felt to be one of his strongest issues takes hit after hit, his side reacted the only way they know how. Cover up, cover up.
