The Sound of the Crowd

Curiouser and curiouser, said Alice

Column on the upcoming film Michael Moore Hates America.

What gets me most about it is that I think the filmmaker is disingenuous. He keeps insisting the title should not be seen as bashing Moore. Which I guess makes sense, because the film is made for people who think a report titled “Bin Laden determined to attack in the US” shouldn’t have been seen as a warning.

But the director keeps insisting that he has respect for Moore, which makes him come off as a bit of a weasel in my eyes. It’s like dude, at least have the courage of your convictions.

I have mixed feelings about Moore (as do most liberals, I think, if they’re honest), but at least he doesn’t go around claiming that actually he loves the NRA and wouldn’t dream of bashing president Bush…
