The Sound of the Crowd

How much do I love George Carlin?

So I went down to the local mall to look for a new pair of pants, browse a bookshop, and look in on the personal appearance of the Veronica Mars cast. I didn’t find the pants.

In the bookshop, however, I found George Carlin’s latest bestseller, When Will Jesus Bring The Pork Chops? Near the front of the book, after the acknowledgements but before the preface, we find the following message:

“Major funding for this book was made possible by the deliberate starving of a family of four in Tennessee.”

As for the Veronica Mars appearance, I only stayed a few minutes. I love the show, but this was an event meant for teens, complete with radio DJ (the lowest form of life) and corny promotion.

Was pleased to see they drew a decent-sized crowd, though. The series is in the unfortunate position of being on UPN, which generally means ratings death. But if they can lock in those demos…

Only one thing caused me a slight pang about leaving. Rob Marshall, the creator of the series (and Cupid, soon may it be released to DVD) was also there. I can’t think of anything I’d really like to say to the actors that would be worth standing in line with a bunch of 15 year old girls. But him I’d like to shake hands with. Unfortunately, the way it was set up I’d’ve had to walk by each actor in turn sitting at a long table to get to Thomas.

Still, considering the show’s on UPN, I wonder how hard it would be to get an interview for Ink 19. Note to self: I must investigate this…
