How It Ends

Cicero Recordings

How do you even begin to make sense of a band that sounds like Chris Isaak fronting a mariachi band from Lithuania? The blend of sounds and styles is mildly hallucinogenic. It can be disorienting to hear mariachi horns and gypsy melodies in the same song.

Devotchka came together as the backing band for a burlesque show, developing their unique sound while backing scantily clad dancers. You can almost imagine a smoky club in Istanbul with belly dancers and refugees from all points East and West. I really wouldn’t be surprised to see Devotchka show up in a future Robert Rodriquez movie (one of the bloody ones he does with Quentin, not the Spy Kids stuff).
