The Blistering Sun

Mpress

A quirky, yet memorable combination of instant melodies and interesting instrumentation, The Blistering Sun is the latest installment in the fascinating career of Rachael Sage.

With her seventh studio record, Sage is truly an independent artist worthy of the name; writing, recording and producing all 15 tracks on an utterly captivating album positively bursting with pop goodness.

Her vocal style and piano mastery lazily draw comparisons to such heavyweights as Sara McLachlan, yet there’s so much more depth to Sage’s music than at first appears. The opening duo of “Alright, OK” and “Featherwoman” reveal her knack for writing expertly crafted pop, while the bright and bouncy “Wildflower” shimmers with style and verve. The sassy “Lonely Streets” could easily be a Broadway showstopper, the introspective “Older” demonstrates a more vulnerable side to Sage’s writing, but “C’mon Over” could finally be the song to make people sit up and take notice of an abundantly talented artist with the voice, songs and presence to succeed.
