U.S. Post-Sept. 11 Arms Trade Policy

…However, in the last five years, the Bush administration has demonstrated a willingness to provide weapons and military training to weak and failing states and countries that have been repeatedly criticized by the U.S. State Department for human rights violations, lack of democracy, and even support of terrorism.

… For instance, the State Department has described the human rights situation in Uzbekistan as “very poor” every year for the past 17 years, yet Uzbekistan has seen a nearly 10-fold increase in the amount of U.S. military assistance it has received since 2001. Countries such as Nepal and Yemen, which had not been major recipients of U.S. weapons in the 10 years prior to Sept. 11 due to human rights concerns, are also emerging as substantial arms trading partners while showing little if any improvement in their human rights records.</i>

As you ponder on the madness of our moron in power okaying arms sales to terrorist nations, remember the words of Eisenhower, in his farewell address:

…In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

The Bush administration is breeding instability in the world for profit. Any lip service given to some ill-defined, never-ending, “Global War on Terror” must be judged not against their words- which is pure propaganda meant only to placate the masses huddled before Faux News- but rather against their actions.

In that light, they reveal themselves to be the ultimate terrorists.
