Emmure are one more heavier-than-thou (or so they seem to think) metal-core band that will appear on overstacked bills with bands like Norma Jean, Atreyu and Every Time I Die. Listened to as an instrumental piece, Goodbye To The Gallows would be brutal. Like most of these bands, the drums are nice and heavy, the guitar descendant from death metal, but the vocals steer away from the traditional growl and into the boy whine/scream.
These guys from Connecticut do it well, but they don’t pull away from the pack enough to be memorable. The only memorable moment on this short Zeuss-produced disc –the man behind all the heavy weights: Hatebreed, Terror, Shadows Fall, God Forbid, Agnostic Front– is the strangely “what the hell is that track doing on there?!” track #6 –“Travis Bickle.” Named after the fictional character from Taxi Driver, what you’ve got here is two minutes of what sounds like someone raking leaves, and a volume-increasing heartbeat. Absolutely worthless addition to an otherwise average metal-core release.
