The Dear Hunter

Act II: The Meaning of, And All Things Regarding Ms. Leading

Triple Crown

I had thought that epic-themed prog albums had gone the way of 8 tracks and disco, but just as disco beats have been sneaking their ways back into popular music, so have the layered musical journeys once perfected by artists like Pink Floyd and The Who.

Following in the footsteps of Coheed & Cambria, Boston’s The Dear Hunter – has anyone else noticed the sudden popularity of the word “dear” of “deer” in band names these days?! – are set to release Act II: The Meaning of, And All Things Regarding Ms. Leading. This post-emo-core/prog fusion is the brainchild of former Receiving End of Sirens vocalist/guitarist Casey Crescenzo. The tale woven throughout the 15 tracks doesn’t jump out at me, but then again my copy didn’t come with any artwork or a lyric sheet. I can only assume that there is some interconnection between literary heavy songs like “The Lake and the River” and the album’s highlight, “The Bitter Suite 1 and 2: Meeting Ms. Leading and Through the Dime.”

Unlike his former band, The Dear Hunter seem to have more range, operating on multiple cylinders and hinting at a flexibility in sound that The Receiving End of Sirens have not demonstrated just yet.
