Waveform Corporation

After bouncing up and down to the rave DJ, this is the stuff you’ll want in the chill room: a selection of murky, mysterious sounds with no agenda, no politics, and no unexpected modulations or volume changes. Waveform specializes in collecting and archiving these songs. None are in any danger of frequent airplay; they fit squarely in that mold. The collection is internationally eclectic, with inputs from Sweden (“Soother” by The Itch Incident), New Zealand (“Unadrumma” by Pitch Black), Greece (“Time Warp, Inc.” by Top 5 including RxN), and half a dozen other places the typical American might have trouble locating on the globe. Still, this is no world music disc of reggae or folk music. All of the songs are very electronic, programmed as much as played, and suitable for background noise or drug-induced meditation. I have no favorites or dislikes here, the disc flows along at a deliberate pace and allows you to step on or off as you will. It’s as fun at 3 am as it is a 3 pm.
