Live In Northampton

United For Opportunity

Toronto Celtic rockers Enter The Haggis’ first live CD Live In Northampton is a raucous, energetic affair that showcases the band’s enduring popularity amongst fans.

Part of the band’s appeal may lie in their diversity: traditionalists are indulged with rousing instrumentals such as “Fiddle Set,” while tracks like “Cynical” demonstrate Enter The Haggis’ more mainstream credentials, and opener “One Last Drink” recalls the spirit of Shane McGowan and The Pogues.

As you’d expect from a live set, crowd favorites abound: the toe-tapping “Marti’s Last Stand” is warmly received, the bluesy “Another Round” maintains the tempo, while “Gasoline” ends the set on a topical note with its environmentally-charged lyrics.

Live In Northampton effortlessly demonstrates the live prowess of Enter The Haggis, but I suspect only a visit to an actual show would provide the definitive experience of the band’s talents.
