Absolutes

Curb Appeal Records

The debut album by Seattle four-piece Barcelona is an enjoyable collection of piano-driven atmospheric rock, which effortlessly demonstrates just why the band has recently inked an exclusive worldwide licensing deal with Warner Chappell Publishing.

The recent success of bands like The Fray could be a boon for Barcelona in terms of how well Absolutes could be received in the current musical climate, but there are Coldplay and even Radiohead comparisons evident too, especially on “First Floor People.”

However, tunes like the excellent “It’s About Time” and the dreamy “Stars” undoubtedly prove the band’s sound is all its own, while Barcelona’s emotive lyrics and sublime melodies are perhaps best demonstrated on the energetic “Lesser Things.”
