If you can believe it (and you should, really), Red Cell collectively thumbs its nose at some twenty years of industrial-metal-crossover and forges an intriguing and artier path. Instead of macho metallisms and boys-own introspection, Red Cell come off as a hybrid of Pailhead/Twitch-era Ministry and any of Kai Hansen’s power metal projects – I’m thinking more of Helloween and Presence. So where you would normally expect sub-Fear Factory thuggery, you instead get strong, melodic power metal vocals, wide open spaces of synthy echo, and solid, pounding mechanized bass. The songwriting could definitely be stronger and no track reached out to grab me by the throat, but I see an intriguing set of building blocks here.
