Orlando International Theater Fringe Festival, Orlando, FL</strong>

Sitting in a nice theater watching this absurdist slapstick peppered with references to Ingmar Bergman, Shakespearean penis jokes, and levitating gurus, the thought crossed my mind – ‘Now, THIS is a Fringe show!”. It’s wacky, looks like it was propped out of a garage, and it careens along leaving no theatrical convention un-egged. As the 6 of you who attended the recent Beckett fest will recall, Vladimir (Ryan Leyhue) and Estragon (Tony Robinette) are standing under a coat hanger tree waiting for Godot (Erin Cline). In Beckett’s version, Godot is stuck in Atlanta or someplace, and we discover patience as they cling to existence. But now Godot has gotten a flight, rented a car, and found the cross roads where the two faithful men wait. No longer stranded in the ennui of life, now we can make fun of it.

While Godot makes the guys do inexplicable things, she refuses to justify her reasons, and the more they ask the harder she kicks. When a garish pink and white Bozo (Joshua Eads-Brown) arrives on the scene, the stakes are raised – he has water pistols, candy bars and fake knives. While Godot offers murky discipline, Bozo offers sin and fun and an exit strategy that just might be worth the effort.

While the original Godot has a reputation for boredom, this snappy product is just the opposite – fast, witty, and full of MST3K style references that fly by like digital asteroids at a star trek convention.

This show is presented as part of the 17th Orlando International Fringe Theater Festival. Information on times, tickets, and venue location my be found at http://orlandofringe.org/
