I’ve never been to a séance, but I’ve read both sides of the story. On one hand, spiritualists can contact dear old dead Uncle Fred, on the other they’re all just scam artists with a great set of magic tricks. While “Wonder Show” won’t ease your mind either way, Mr. Winkler and his lovely assistant Ms. Brooks present a calm yet beautifully executed set of tricks and illusions that may not raise the dead, but impressed the sock off of me.
Magicians never reveal their tricks, and it’s unfair for me to say just what illusions Professor Winkler presented, but they ranged from some basic “destroy and restore” activities to some extremely advanced illusions that come right from the world of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Large objects levitate, small objects fly, and while Mr. Winkler’s Patter could be snappier, this show will make you ask either “How did he do that?” or “Fred? Is that really you?”
