I love it when someone writes themselves in a corner and then has to dig out. This goofy detective story begins with the vaudeville team of Roquefort and Lipchitz (Jay T. Becker and Eric Pinder) hoofing across the stage and ends with an alien abduction. Roquefort and Lipchitz don’t know it yet, but they have something in common that will motivate a whole hour of comedy. A chest reportedly owned by the great Sara Bernhardt has fallen to them, but until trench coated detective Skip Peril (Jason Horne) and his sexy assistant Trixie (Heather Leonardi) can sort out their paternity, the pair must go on dancing and despising each other as only true vaudevillians can.
It’s a shoe string plot, but it highlights the dancing, acting and mugging-at-the-audience skills of everyone involved. Both Becker and Pinder are accomplished physical comedians, which is fancy talk for saying they can stand still and not say a word and still make you laugh. Horne’s innocence makes him an unlikely hard boiled egg of a detective, but Leonardi has a way of wearing a red dress with a slit up to her belly button and still looking sexy. It’s a silly comedy, but one that makes you suspends disbelief in everything except your need to pee from laughter.
This show is presented as part of the 17th Orlando International Fringe Theater Festival. Information on times, tickets, and venue location my be found at http://OrlandoFringe.org/
