Egress

Slanty Shanty

Despite the mighty moniker, this one man army doesn’t conquer any new territory with his 2007 debut Egrees. Iowa-based singer-songwriter Lucas Williams explores a highly experimental fusion of Jeff Buckley/Thom Yorke vocals (“Duffle Bag”) merging heavy doses of Spiritualized shoegazing (“Ghost Sheets”) with subdued orchestral pop (“Dead Dream Girl Ship”). He does, though, manage to voyage into the dreamy inner galaxy of his heart and mind on “Red Shoelaces” via spaced-out vocals, acoustic guitars, sampled mortar bomb explosions, violins, and pianos.
