Plastic Crimewave Sound

Prophase Music

The first chord off this disc brought me right back to 1971. The loud over-fuzzed guitar chords could be the sort of two-hour spacey electric rock workout that bands like Hawkwind manufactured to obliterate the acid-fried brain of young baby boomers. Lead and rhythm guitars swap feedback while the drummer charges forward like a drunken frat boy in an SUV. Vocals proclaim apocalyptic visions of whatever random color the drugs have thrown into the singer’s synapses. Plastic Crimewave Sound scraps the three-minute punk pop ethos. Rather than snort scraps of crystal meth on a restroom washbasin lip, this band chooses the heavy hitting chemicals – it’s MDA, LSD, MDT or nothing for these Foxy Methoxy boys. The six songs here take 40 minutes to play through, just as long as two sides of a microgroove LP did back when Peter Fonda preached the glories of Mexican Morning Glory and Timothy Leary sounded just as reasonable as Alex Crowley. Don’t waste your dealing proceeds on any of modern Woodstock revisionism; this is the real Superman Blotter. You won’t be clocking in at Best Buy tomorrow; this disc makes you way too groovy for any of that embroidered polo-shirt-with-a-corporate-logo baloney.
