Straight No Chaser

CD Review – The Flying Change

Pain is a Reliable Signal

Scarlet Shame Records

Sam Jacobs is The Flying Change and has taken pain, heartbreak and hope and made an achingly beautiful album. His wife has debilitating sciatica which doctors at the Mayo Clinic can’t even help. All the plans and dreams that they had have come to an abrupt halt, so Jacobs made this album. His muffled baritone and slowed-down folk encapsulate the inner turmoil that he suffers and the inner pain that his wife experiences, especially on tracks “Broken Bow” and “The Northern Bay.” This is a good record for anyone who is, or knows someone who is dealing with a life-threatening condition.
