Burn Up & Shine

Frankly Mills Record

Here’s a clean and pleasant band with an unadorned, but pleasing, sound and polished songwriting skills that make them sound like really nice people being genuinely nice. “Fabulous Friends” is a great way to start the relation, its hook is something to the effect “Money makes it sunny/ bring your fabulous friends.” Hey, capitalism isn’t all evil, and by the end of the disc you’ll be reminded that “You could still get lost if wanted to…” All the gentle styles are present, and the duo of Debbie Andrews (keys) and Mike Blaxill (guitar) sound like a young couple in the pleasant throes of love, long prior to that serious first argument. There’s a drummer lurking in there, and a string of helpful friends that polish up individual cuts, but the heart and soul of this band is the sparkle of a guy and a gal and some outstanding compositions. Invite them over for vegetarian lasagna and a bottle of the second-cheapest wine at Publix. It will be a wonderful evening.
