Tiger: You’re Canned Speech Didn’t Work. This Will…

Wow Tiger! I’ve seen the evening news sound more sincere. It was so blatently obvious that you rehearsed that presidential-sounding speech that even if you meant what you said, the majority of the public won’t believe you. Ultimately, here’s what you should do:

  1. Do a one-on-one interview with someone who will ask real questions. Not Barbara Walters. More like Matt Lauer. Someone who will ask the tough questions and not tip-toe around the subject. Nothing can be off limits. You say that the public doesn’t need to know about your personal life, marriage, etc. Well, you are one of the most public figures in the world. As much as I wish that could happen for you, it won’t. So, put everything out there on your terms instead of TMZ’s or Access Hollywood’s or, hell even ESPN’s terms.

  1. Get back to what you do best: Golf. You want the easiest way to put this behind you? Get on the links as quickly as you can. Make the press and public focus on the fact that you still are the best golfer on the planet. The quicker you do this, the quicker the press and public will stop talking about the various women you’ve been “unfaithful” with.

  1. Focus on the good. Once you come back to golf and have had your tell-all interview, then start focusing on what you do have, both publicly and privately. You have a foundation that has been around since 1996, has helped millions of kids and includes a 35,000 square foot learning center that helps students learn more than they would in a classroom. You are arguably the best golfer ever. You’ve proven that once, do it again. You have a stunning wife and two beautiful children. Like Joni Mitchell said “You don’t know what you’ve got, ‘til it’s gone.” Realize what you have and then embrace it, not your multiple flings.

You have taken a beating and it probably will continue after that stale “press conference.” But if you do these things, I think you can get some sort of credibility back. Something not only you could use, but professional golf as well.
