Truth to Power

All that wiretapping by Bush? Illegal.

U.S. Illegally Spied on Islamic Charity, Judge Rules

March 31 (Bloomberg) – The government illegally eavesdropped on the telephone calls of lawyers for a now-defunct Islamic charity without a warrant, a federal judge in San Francisco said in ruling today.

U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker said attorneys for the Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation, once based in Oregon, could pursue civil remedies for being subjected in 2004 to warrantless domestic surveillance under an anti-terrorism program put into place by the Bush administration after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the U.S.

He rejected arguments by Justice Department attorneys that the case never should have gone forward because it threatened to reveal national security secrets. The government failed to show that a warrant was obtained or that the surveillance was lawful, Walker ruled.</em>

And remember, Bush began illegally spying on American citizens PRIOR to 9/11.

And Obama will do what with this knowledge?

Absolutely fucking nothing.
