A Day in the Life of Miss Hiccup
A Day in the Life of Miss Hiccup
SHOSHINZ presents
Yellow Venue, 2010 Orlando International Fringe Festival, Orlando FL</strong>
You’ve seen the mysterious woman in the yellow dress festooned with fruit and flowers in the beer tent. Her face is a white Kabuki mask with a few color highlight and she carries a small basket and wordlessly hands out flyers. That’s Miss Hiccup, a single woman with a simple life that’s filled with fantasy and fancy. She wakes in the morning, performs her ablutions, and even has time for the opera. Played by noted mime Yanomi, she celebrates the minutia of daily life in this oddly compelling hour of sound and mime. The silly yet delicate decorations of Japan fill her apartment – small umbrellas shield her from the drip of a leaky pipe, a glittered and elegantly flowing crane waters her flowers, and the sanitary facilities are stage left. Occasionally, a small gastric spasm sends a bubble of gas out of her lips, but she can suppress the annoyance by keeping busy. With no discernable source of income, she still has skills – she conducts La Toreador, and pounds out a funky rhythm on the heads of the front row audience. Somewhere between touching and surreal, Miss Hiccup is happy, and you will join her joy by watching her daily routine.
