I Want Us to Be Remembered
Here’s a quickie EP from one of those new bands that seems to pop up after every fresh rain. A House for Lions comes from Daniel Norman, an LA actor turned songwriter with a penchant for harmonious vocals and a slightly dissonant guitar sound. Backing him up are Mike Nissen on guitars and Eric McCann with his stand-up bass; they can have either a lonely country sound or a more edgy indie rock “I’m mad as heck, but I don’t know why” groove. There are five cuts on this EP, all fairly decent if not earth shattering. “Ease My Mind” is their most countrified sound, while “Evolution Calls” is a more brittle, electric jazzy number. “How Many Times” slows down the pace with a Dylan-esque failed romance, and opener “Let Back” offers a clattery rock line with a hopeful vocal. There’s that fresh earnestness here that debut albums offer: A House for Lions may well catch a small wave and develop into something with a broad appeal.
