The Worst Show in Fringe

Read the rest of my reviews, this is now where NEAR the worst show in Fringe although they were rather sloppy about folding programs. We’ve all been kidnapped and held hostage by frustrated writer/director/producers who just doesn’t “get” the concept behind theatrical criticism. I’ve seen my share of Thomas Wayne (Eric Pindar) grade productions – smug, over written shows that preach or confuse without entertaining or enlightening. Here Orlando Weekly-Sentinel (a COMPLETELY MADE UP paper) critic Natalie Kent (Meghan Moroney) may have been a little hyperbolic, but at least here tirade was funny and readable unlike Wayne’s show. Mr. Wayne bubbles with righteous anger, but what he do other than attack Kent’s drinking and misuse of a word in casual conversation? Wayne wants…what? Constructive criticism? Some ego polishing? Complete and utter control of the audience’s perception? Better knot tying skills? Bumbling Biff (will Hagaman) stumbles in, he had no interest in theater until he accidently read the review, and now he’s enthused to see Wayne’s show because it’s so bad. So what do you prefer, Mr. Artiste? Ticket sales or nice words in public? Bitterly funny, this show is a microcosm of the arts world, and funny as hell even if you’ve never sat in a red plush seat or on a crappy plastic folding chair. As in all academic debates, the fighting is so very bitter because the stakes are so terribly low.

This show is part of the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival. Tickets and other information may be found at http://www.OrlandoFringe.org
