BVDub & Loscil

Erebus

Glacial Movements

Well, space is alive and well in this impromptu hook-up between BVDub (Brock Van Wey) and Loscil (Scott Morgan), and this five-track collection fills an old fashioned CD to the brim with nearly 78 minutes of electronic goodness. Since this a Glacial Movements release, you’re not here for thumping rhythms and heart-stopping drops. Things move slowly, majestically, just like, well… just like a glacier. Somebody has to beat that metaphor to death.

While there are five tracks and each is clearly independent, this is an ensemble piece with a cyclical symmetry – you can drop in at any point and pick up the bus wherever you land. There are slow periods, endless synthetic “Ahhhs” blend with a pulsed chorus of different keyed voices, loops of rhythm rise slowly only to overtake the voices, conflicting ideals battle each other swabbed in cotton wool, and emotions rise and fall like modern dancers in blindfolds. The space between the cuts takes on its own significance; it’s like staring at a sheet of white paper until you see your soul. The electronic winds of time howl through this collaboration. It’s ambiance that surrounds you. well… like ambiance.
