“How it Ends” takes Leilani Francisco’s New Wave vocals and lays them over a simple backing track while the other half of this couple/ group, Mike DeLay, assembles all the other sounds. He’s listed as “Instrumentation/ Engineer” so I assume he drives the midi sequencer. Now, we like to THINK our pop music is untainted by technically trained people and that the sinuous beat in “These Motions” is scribbled on the back of napkin and appears the next day on the Billboard Hot 100. Ha, ha, there’s obviously more going on (after all, someone has to do the album art) but when Tic Tic Boom! is rolling though one of these sweet little audio pop-tarts you’re willing to suspend disbelief for two minutes and fifty five seconds. This duet is burning up the Indie music tracks; even KROQ in Pasadena is on the wagon and they checked the biggest cred box of them all: SXSW.
I wish you could read their press release – it actually says “hyper-colored universe of pulsing beats.” I like the band, and I’m in awe of the publicist. Best of all, this pop pair hand screens all its own merch. I’ll bet they keep chickens in the spare bedroom.
