Confessions: An Improvised Comedy

Confessions: An Improvised Comedy

AdLib Theatre

Purple Venue

Orlando Fringe Festival

Loch Haven Park, Orlando, FL</strong>

This commentary is based on a technical preview.

If an improv audience fails to laugh for more than 10 minutes straight, it might be time to tag out the entire show. “Confessions” starts from a solid concept: take audience confessions and riff off them. And things started well; a woman confessed to sleeping with 1000 men giving the AdLibbers a good run as they worked through her numbering system. Then a writer (not me) admitted to better writing after sustaining a concussion, and later someone confessed to falling asleep in a Fringe show (not this one). The six improv artists handled these suggestions well enough, but when the audience material ran out the troupe produced a large cardboard spinner wheel. One idea was sent to improv heaven and one to improve hell and we don’t know why, but that’s where we spent the next 30 minutes. A helpful lady next me flashed me her watch, but it didn’t make me feel better. Improv can be notoriously uneven; the next show might sparkle. Or it might not.

This show was part of the 2015 Orlando Fringe Festival. Information on tickets and times may be found at www.OrlandoFringe.org.
