Jessica Lee Wilkes

Lone Wolf

Free Dirt

Jessica Lee Wilkes, known previously from her work with Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers’ JD Wilkes (that would also be her hubby) in The Dirt Daubers, has put out into the world a 5 song EP that channels Wanda Jackson and Sha-Na-Na. From the bass-led, hand clapping shimmy shake of kickoff tune “Groove’s Too Shallow” to the brass and clap of “Go Ahead Baby,” Lone Wolf is pure old time rock ‘n’ roll – the kind that Bob Seger pined over.

Wilkes’ soul drenched vocals are sultry and give the simple blues pop songs a seductive and smoldering element. The title track soars out of the speakers like a hot rod barreling down a desert highway on the run from the law, and “Love Like Crazy” may be playful and feel like a deleted cut from Grease’s dance contest sequence, but a sexy sax solo gives it a deliciously raunchy undertone. She sings like a temptress, and teases out her bass lines like a siren, making Jessica Lee Wilkes one smoking hot badass.
