The Fringe Omnibus for May 21, 2016

My back log is building, and I am reduced to shorty-short short commentary:

Daddy Issues (Red Venue) Peter Aguero relates tales of growing up in a broken home with a deadpan, rapid fire delivery. His daddy made him tough, and I don’t think that where he want to end up.

Chocolate Cake Marsha & Marty hold an unnatural love of Martha Stewart, their tribute channel teaches the unwashed how to bake “The Martha Way.” They’ve even gotten some interest from the doyen of décor, and that splits the pair; drives the best food fight in Fringe, and drops a surprise ending right in your lap.

Voci Dance: Paint Chips Yeah! They’re dancing to Ken Nordine’s “Colors” which were originally ads for paint; each color was imbued with a personality. Those personalities percolate through Voci’s movements; costumes change colors and the dancers float like light beams in this well motivated dance concert.

Shirley GnomeYee-HAW, its dirty country music played by a woman who can sell sex and songs and even make the country life look appealing. She starts with “Who Glitter is this?” amps up to “Fuck Me and Don’t Think” and winds us down with the cautionary “Don’t Be a Rapist, Baby.” There’s plenty if good dating advice like “It’s amazingly hard to get laid at a Burlesque Festival.” Love her, leave her, but pick up the CD.

From Broadway to Obscurity Eric Gutman led a charmed Broadway career; his first post college gig involved “Forbidden Broadway” and took him to a long running gig with “Jersey Boys.” This tale is funny, fascinating; and damn, can this guy belt!

The Lion, the Bitch, and the Wardrobe. Panic attacks and anxiety may not be fun but Canadian Street performer Sharon Mahoney bends them into an hour of self-reflection and parody self-help. Her Hyper Canadian persons is her best; Dr. Jopra Phil hits to close to the real thing.

Love Is A Battlefield Martin Dockery introduces a new dramatic story told in his subtext rich staccato of dialog and innuendo; here he and Vanessa Quesnelle debate running away from her ominous husband. There a strong sense of foreboding and misdirected lust; nothing is as it appears but the resolution ties it all together with a bloody red ribbon.

These show was presented as part of the 2016 Orlando Fringe Festival. For show times, tickets and more information please visit . http://orlandofringe.org/
