On Broadway

featuring Natalie Cordone

Natalie Cordone is the current world record holder in the “Most Spotlight Cabarets” category of the Winter Park Playhouse superlatives. She’s pulled ahead of her rival Kevin Kelly, and even brought him on stage for some good-natured taunting. But he’s not quitting; he’ll be back in a few months. Stay tuned to this high-pressure musical theater competition! What make Ms. Cordone such a powerful contender in this brutal contest? It’s close attention the to basics: great pipes, a strong playlist of hits tunes, and the backing of a powerful plant: Chris Leavy. Tonight Ms. Cordone was at top form: dresses in a stunning black and gold art deco dress, she opened with “That Old Black Magic.” With the requisite seasonal tune out of the way, she’s off to what she does best – favorites like “When you wish upon a Star,” “Moon River,” and “On Broadway.”

Graciously, she brings Mr. Kelly up on stage, and allows him to plug his next show. Later Mr. Shawn Kilgore joins her, they do their own killer show together to worldwide acclaim. But tonight isn’t all monster hits, her less well-known selections include “The Man that Got Away” “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered,” and a surprisingly soulful “Puff the Magic Dragon.” Soon its time the required encore, and we go home with the crowd pleaser “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” There’s everything to love here, and nothing not to. Reserve your tickets for her next show as soon as it’s announced as she sells out quickly. Once you’ve seen her you’ll know why.
