Midnight Cruiser Records

This new band (Project? Collective? Art group?) popped out a new album with a little something for everyone. Opening track “Rough Rider” features a female vocalist breathing some lines that might not sound too erotic of you read them, but the breathy delivery says “Oh, YES! Oh, YES!” as loud as it can. Then track 2 “Surf Gnossienne “ gives us a laid back, very slow dance vocal-free number, suitable for a low tide break in the waves. Our vocalist returns to lay out a SFX laden “Jesus I was Evil” with its school yard chorus and swinging party “Wink, wink, nudge nudge” chorus. I’m falling in love here, and slow dance erotic “Starr” carries the mood forward until the hard rocker “Little Bird Gets Swallowed” gets you dancing fast enough to behave yourself. I’m at the half way point and can find nothing to complain about. It’s a surf revival monster album, packed with intelligent, Hi-Q pop tunes of the first water. Art rock may be back, and I’ll be happy to hang out at this gallery.
