Keep For Cheap

Refresh Records

St. Paul? Do people still admit to living there? Well, some do, including this pop-heavy semi-girl group lead by Autumn Vagle and Kate Malanaphy. I’ll step out on a limb and dub this their third album release, but it might be their third single. Record labels these days… [ed. It’s their third album]. The sound here is a female-vocal-led duet full of pleasant, happy pop tunes. They present their stories clearly and concisely, leaving an upbeat aura of post-ironic independent songwriting.

We discover eight well-produced tracks, all sporting vaguely ironic titles like “Fish Piss,” “Home My Emotions,” and “On the Floor.” “On The Floor” opens with a plaintive squeak of guitar strings and a intriguing lyric: “My heart is pounding to hear you coming…” There’s more than one reason that statement might be true, and I look at the positive option of it being a lover, or at least a cute pizza delivery person. Sign me up, I want to hear more!
