We Choose Love

David Certain has unveiled an exciting studio work, presenting a one-of-a-kind sound that sets a higher standard for production and musical innovation. In addition to being a world-class composer, Certain is first and foremost an amazingly accomplished bass player.

Some musicians fail to understand just how wide-ranging the articulation of this instrument can be. Bass isn’t just about supporting a song with low frequency; it adds movement and emotion to the music. Certain mastered this concept to perfection, and every song on We Choose Love, this six-track release, is all the better for it. On cuts such as “Miss Lennon,” Certain immediately channels legends such as Jaco Pastorius with his bright and articulate electric bass tone, applied to a classic jazz combo sound.

The title track is an amazing conclusion to this mesmerizing studio work, and it highlights his ability to explore polyrhythms and unique signatures and tempo combinations. The way the bass and drums interplay in the song, shape-shifting the groove and morphing the mood, is absolutely masterful. This is undoubtedly one of the most notable tune on this release, and it is not surprising to see it is actually the title track for the entire record.

Overall, this exciting piece of music could be described as a combination of jazz and fusion, with a progressive edge and some unique ideas that highlight the mastery and talent of all the musicians involved on this particular studio work.

What distinguishes this LP is, in fact, its prominent features of organic sounds and instinctive qualities, evident in its warmth and the direct essence of the performances captured on track. Yet, the record remains remarkably polished, exhibiting a contemporary sound that aligns flawlessly with the artist’s distinct vision.

Fans who appreciate music with a unique and imaginative twist will undoubtedly find his affinity for spontaneity and the perpetually captivating nature of the creative process enthralling.
