David Garza

The 4-Track Manifesto

Wide Open

It’s been a while since a record caught me as unexpectedly and completely as this. David Garza’s The 4-Track Manifesto, released in anticipation of his major-label debut, has me scratching my head in wonder at being reassured that indeed, sometimes even the biggest labels have taste. Garza’s style is deeply rooted in soul, and he has an ear not only for the well-honed tune, but also the best mix and mood for it. The closing “Too Much” manages to rock and soothe despite the big fuzz guitar; the other three tracks fare equally splendidly. A real, real find – track it down. Wide Open Records, P.O.
