Diallo, originally from Guinea-Conakry and now operating from Vancouver, has a unique guitar style – his notes are like drops of condensation on a cold bottle flowing and merging one into another. Clear smooth lines of melody, gentle yet percussive, with an expressiveness and capacity for mood that belies the pure sound of the steel string. Truly a virtuoso, Diallo showcases his skills against a varied backdrop that unfortunately sometimes wanders into synthy Afropop. Still, the shining moments (like the cascading lines on “Afriki Djama”) greatly outnumber the clunkers, and Aduna can only increase the quality and diversity of your collection.
