The Parent Trap
directed by Nancy Meyers
starring Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson
The Parent Trap is a remake of a beloved family film and, as is only right, the film team who brought you Father of the Bride I &II have done everything to pump up the entertainment value. It is almost impossible to detect how they created the twin scenes with one young talented actress playing two very different sisters. We’ve come a long way since The Patty Duke Show. Some of the humor early on is annoying and juvenile, but this is a family film, after all. As the film progresses, it becomes sweeter and sweeter, until I thought I should have all my teeth pulled. This film succeeds on the chemistry of its leading characters, including Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson. Still, watching The Parent Trap is like being tickled for a half an hour. It is as painful as it is fun.
