Tina and the B-Sides
It’s All Just the Same
Sire
Hello acousta-groove, power chorus, sprinkled and spattered with emotion and attitude (and some emotional attitudes). Not that this is an all-acoustic album by any means, but anything that would be mistaken for a guitar wall is friendly and airy. There are lots of songs about needing a friend, finding yourself, feeling down, and needing to laugh and cry. Testimonies delivered with great confidence.
Our female troubadour here is more excited than Lisa Loeb, but more relaxed than 4 Non Blondes doing John Cougar songs. With a traditional southern-rooted Traveling Wilburette sound, she sort of comes off like alterna-pop’s Bonnie Raitt. John Strawberry Fields capable production work seems thwarted here by a loyalty to Tina’s music genre and desires, except for his occasional bits poking through. Not much diversity or stylizing going on here, which makes for a steady feeling throughout and lots of dependability. ?
