Arguably the most serious blight of American hardcore is the multitude of bands that are sick of it all and united under an agnostic front – literally and figuratively. Case in point: Overthrow’s React . Overthrow has the patented New York-styled chug ‘n’ thug down pat, I mean, to a serious extent. The band adeptly tiptoes past the metal-core muck whose modus operandi is to grate the listener’s ears, preferring instead to box those ears with all-too-familiar metallic hardcore (there’s a difference, y’know) that’s nonetheless compelling. Genericism aside, React should sit well with NYHC aficionados whose collections are bookended by Cause For Alarm and Crown of Thornz.
